"Yearbooks Go High-tech"

...In addition to the traditional yearbook, the students received a multi-media interactive CD-ROM, marking a quickly evolving multimillion-dollar industry that takes advantage of new technology and a student's eagerness to get it.

..."It's so much more powerful, visual and realistic. It speaks more to our generation," said Matt Wells, a junior at Maria Carrillo. The popular theory around campus is that if a picture can say a thousand words, how many more can audio and video say?

..."I think it's awesome to be able to look back at this 20 years from now and see not only what your friends looked like in pictures, but how they acted and sounded," said Mike Peters, a senior and yearbook staff photographer. "I can use it as physical evidence at our reunion to show how Matt acted."

..."The kids get so much experience out of it," she said. "Especially with the new technology because they're learning cutting-edge skills of editing, scanning, splicing, designing."
